1. Overview & Core Philosophy
At VideoDL (operated by Codjin), your privacy and digital autonomy are fundamental priorities. We have engineered our universal media extraction engine with a privacy-first, zero-storage paradigm.
This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use our website (videodl.codjin.com), web tools, or API endpoints. Unlike traditional media platforms, VideoDL does not maintain user profiles, does not track personal browsing habits, and does not retain copies of any downloaded media.
2. Zero-Media Storage Architecture
When a user submits a public URL (e.g., an Instagram reel, TikTok video, or Facebook clip), our engine performs real-time manifest parsing and stream resolution:
- The API extracts direct Content Delivery Network (CDN) stream links directly from the originating platform's public responses.
- Stream URLs are transferred straight back to your client browser or API response payload.
- No video payloads or MP4/MP3 media streams are buffered to long-term server disk.
3. Information We Collect & Use
We believe in extreme data minimization. The table below outlines what data is processed and why:
| Data Category | Purpose & Nature | Retention Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Extraction URL Query | Submitted URL string used strictly during the active request to resolve media manifests. | Transient (In-memory execution only, discarded after response). |
| Technical Telemetry | Anonymized platform name, strategy attempt count, HTTP response codes, latency in ms. | Aggregated counters (No personal or IP association). |
| Theme & History | User preference (Dark/Light) and local download history stored exclusively in your browser. | Stored in Client's LocalStorage until cleared by user. |
| API Key (RapidAPI) | Authentication token used for rate limiting and subscription quotas via RapidAPI. | Managed securely through RapidAPI infrastructure. |
4. Local Storage & Client Data
VideoDL uses your browser's window.localStorage to enhance your user experience without sending personal data to our servers:
videodl_theme: Remembers your interface appearance mode (Light or Dark).videodl_extraction_history: Stores your recent download metadata (titles, thumbnail URLs, format choices) 100% locally on your own machine. You can clear this history anytime by clicking the "Clear All" button in the History modal.
5. Telemetry & Analytics Logs
To maintain high extraction success rates across rapidly changing social platforms, our backend records operational telemetry:
- Platform extraction strategy performance (e.g., direct vs mobile API resolution).
- Aggregated error rate percentages and resolver failovers.
- Server response latency averages.
This telemetry is purely algorithmic, aggregated, and contains no personally identifiable information (PII), no IP addresses, and no persistent tracking cookies.
6. Third-Party Services & APIs
Our website and infrastructure interface with reputable third-party service providers:
- RapidAPI: Handles API gateway authentication, billing, subscription tiers, and rate limiting for API developers.
- Google Fonts: Delivers high-legibility typography assets (Plus Jakarta Sans and JetBrains Mono).
- QuickChart QR Service: Generates dynamic mobile download QR codes on-the-fly without tracking user identities.
7. GDPR Privacy Rights (EU / UK Users)
For users situated in the European Union (EU) and United Kingdom (UK), VideoDL complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You possess the following legal rights:
- Right to Access: You may request confirmation on whether any personal data is processed.
- Right to Erasure (Right to be Forgotten): Because all download history resides in your browser's local storage, you can immediately delete all client-side data by clearing your browser cache or pressing "Clear History".
- Right to Restrict Processing: You may cease using the website or disable JavaScript in your browser settings.
8. CCPA / CPRA Notice (California Residents)
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have the right to know what personal data is collected and the right to opt out of data sales. Since we do not collect or sell consumer profiles, your rights are fully preserved by default.
9. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
VideoDL is an engineering tool and API platform not directed toward children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal data from children under 13.
10. Data Security & Contact
We implement industry-standard cryptographic protocols (TLS/SSL encryption for all HTTP traffic) to protect data transmissions between your browser and our servers.
